How to store shampoo and conditioner bars so they last longer

About 552 MILLION bottles of shampoo end up in the landfill every year in the US alone. Shampoo and conditioner bars are a great way to reduce plastic waste but I haven’t found one that worked with my hair until I tried Green Room Body Co. that I discovered through Sea Blue Collective! These bars are seriously amazing and I’m obsessed with them.

If you haven’t made the switch to shampoo and conditioner bars yet, I’d definitely recommend giving them a try. If you’ve already made the switch, yay! Below are some tips that I’ve learned from Green Room Body Co. to help your bars last for as long as possible.

Tip One: Keep them Dry

Keep your bars away from that spraying shower water. Once you’re done using your bars, place them on a soap dish that has drainage so they can full dry. Keeping your bars dry in between washes help to keep them lasting longer. You can also use a soap saver bag to hang and air your bars as well.

Tip Two: Do this when you’re traveling

When traveling, bring four rubber bands with you to make a DIY soap dish! This has been a lifesaver for me. I learned the hard way when I didn’t let me bars dry before packing them up so now I always tuck 4 rubber bands into my travel tin so they can dry after I use them. If you take a shower right before you have to head out and have to pack your bars, pat dry them as best you can so they’re not as wet!

Tip Three: Cut them in half

Cut your bars in half! Once you get your bars you can either use a knife for a clean cut or break them in half with your hands (like what I did with the bars pictured above). Dani, the founder of Green Room Body Co., suggested doing this and it really did help my bars last longer compared to when I didn’t break them in half!

bonus Tip: For those bits and pieces

When you have those little bits and pieces of your bar left it’s hard to get a good lather going, fear not, you don’t have to waste them thanks to soap saver bags! Put all those little pieces into a soap saver bag and you can lather them right on your hair.

That’s it! I hope these tips are helpful and that your beautiful bars last longer!
