DIY Vintage Trinket Phone Case

DIY

I think this might be one of my favorite DIYs yet! I’ve been wanting to make a custom phone case but with a unique twist. So, I took a trip to my favorite vintage store, Mother of Junk in Williamsburg, where they have an amazing selection of quirky odds and ends. I spent some time digging through a big tub of trinkets and found the perfect pieces for this project! The only things not from the vintage shop are the seashells (which I collected at the beach) and the gold accents. This phone case is truly one of a kind, and I’m so happy with how it turned out!

Here’s what I used to make this:

TIP: If you place something and don’t like how it looks, don’t worry! Just take it off, use a paper towel to wipe away the caulking, smooth it out with the spoon, and reapply.

A few tips:

  • Play around with the layout before you start! I arranged mine and took a picture once I had something I liked. This made it easy to reference as I applied the caulking.

  • If you place something and don’t like how it looks, don’t worry! Just take it off, use a paper towel to wipe away the caulking, smooth it out with the spoon, and reapply. It’s not ideal, but I did this a couple of times, and it worked just fine!

  • Caulking texture can show through in areas that aren't covered by trinkets. To create a smoother or more intentional texture, use the back of a spoon to swirl the caulking around. I actually have a dedicated crafting spoon for projects like this!

  • Crafting tweezers are a lifesaver for applying the smaller accents—definitely more precise than using your hands.

  • If I were to do this again, I’d apply a thicker layer of caulking, especially for embellishments that are a bit bulkier. One of mine felt a little loose, so I removed it and reattached it with Gorilla Glue, which worked perfectly. So, if you're using different-sized embellishments, just keep that in mind as you apply your caulking.

And that’s it! This project is so much fun and super easy to do. I love how each case turns out completely unique. Have fun with it, and if you try this DIY, feel free to DM me or tag me on Instagram @its.courtneymichael—I’d love to see what you create!
