5 Tips for Mindful Fashion

1. Shop Second Hand

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I’m an avid thrifer! Thrifting clothes is my personal favorite way to shop mindfully for clothes. I love how it feels like a little treasure hunt and that the clothes are new to me, even though they are pre-loved. I also love how I can find so many fun and unique styles! I most definitely struggle to find bottoms that fit me, but I love getting shirts, jackets, shoes, and accessories second hand.

2. Rewear and restyle!

I am a big time outfit repeater! Anyone else?! As much as I rock the same outfits I also love to have some fun styling different pieces of clothing to have a different look. It can be a fun challenge to see how many different ways you can style one piece of clothing! Have fun with and see how you can restyle your favorite pieces!

3. Try to buy high quality

Buying high quality clothes that is durable and long lasting is a great way to reduce fashion waste. I think having a few high quality staples is a really great start, like a solid pair of jeans or versatile high quality tees. Some of these can be more expensive but you can also luck out thrifting sometimes! I scored this Patagoinia sweater from Buffalo Exchange and have had it for years!

4. Repair

Making your clothes last as long as possible is a great way to be mindful about your clothes. I’m learning how to make simple repairs for when my clothes get a small hole or tear but is otherwise in great shape. I’ve also seen people have fun with their repairs and even add fun fabric underneath bigger tears to give the clothing item a fun new twist! I haven’t personally done this yet, but I definitely want to try that out at some point.

5. Support Mindful Fashion Companies

If you are going to shop new, consider supporting mindful fashion companies (even for just a few pieces)! Some of my favorites are:
  • DazeyLA: Slow fashion, inclusive fashion company with designs to spark a conversation
  • Relic96: Mindfully thrifted, upcycled items that I can’t seem to get enough of!
  • KindlyYours: plant based bras and underwear + mindful sleep and loungewear (pictured here!)
  • GoodBuy: GoodBuy is a search engine and browser extension where you can discover products, including clothes, all from small businesses! Check out this reel here where I explain how it works!
Those are some of my favorite tips for more mindful fashion! This is just the tip of the iceberg but even picking one of these tips is a great way to start choosing your clothing more consciously. ♡
