Low Waste Shaving Routine

I finally made the transition to an eco-friendly shaving routine! But to be honest, I was scared to use a safety razor. There was just something about the blades that made me nervous but I finally gave it a try and absolutely love it. Below are the products I currently use for my zero waste shaving routine:

Safety Razor:

I got the Albatross Safety Razor from SeaBlue Collective*. Here are my thoughts on it after using it for a couple of months now: Overall, it works so well! You definitely let the razor do the work and gently glide it across your legs at a 45-degree angle. I’ve only cut myself a couple of times by my ankle which happens when I use normal razors too so just be gentle and you’ll get the hang of it. I also have to say it shaves my armpits SO WELL. I was shook at how good it works on my armpits and overall have loved using it!

I’ve heard such good things about the Leaf Safety Razor and definitely would love to try it one day to compare the two, but this razor was more in my budget at this time. This razor with a pack of ten blades was $24.99 compared to $84 for a Leaf Razor with a pack of ten blades. I also love the affordability of safety razor refills. Albatross sells a pack of ten razor blades for $2.50 compared to around $15 for a generic 4 pack of razor refills! Overall I love how it’s plastic-free, in the long run will save me money, and I love that they offer a razor blade return program for a full closed-loop experience.

Bar Soap + Soap Saver Bag:

Currently, I only use bar soap from Green Room Body Co.* + a soap saver bag from Bamboo Switch* and it works great for me! I love how the soap saver bag gently exfoliates my skin and I feel like it helps me get a better shave.

I definitely would like to try a zero-waste shaving cream though. I ALWAYS miss shaving spots on my legs and think using shaving cream will help me visually see where I need to shave better than the bar soap. Stay tuned to see what zero waste shaving creams I find! I post super often on Instagram so follow me there for the most updates :)

Body Oil:

I don’t know why, but I’m just not a huge fan of body lotion. But body oil - I LOVE! I have 3 favorite body oils that are all a little different and I love them all.

Blue Tansy Body Oil from Primally Pure:

The Blue Tansy Body Oil from Primally Pure* was the first body oil I ever tried! My sister gave it to me as a gift and that’s when I discovered that body oil was for me. This body oil definitely has a distinct scent from the organic Blue Tansy essential oil but personally, I love it. A little bit goes a long way and it always leaves my skin feeling so dang silky smooth. It’s also made in the USA and crafted with organic, sustainably harvested ingredients. They also have Jasmine and Lemongrass body oils which seem amazing too - might just have to try out their body oil trio pack - stay tuned!

Undaria Algae Body Oil from Osea:

I recently tried a new body oil, the Undaria Algae Body Oil from Osea* and I absolutely love it. It seriously leaves my skin feeling so smooth and hydrated it’s ridiculous. It’s vegan, cruelty-free, women-owned, and is made with antioxidant-packed seaweed to help give your skin some mineral moisture. I got a sample pack of Osea products to try some products out before I commit to the bigger bottle and this was one of the products included. Let’s just say, when I’m out, I’ll most definitely be ordering a full-sized bottle of this liquid gold!

Hibernate Body Oil by Perfect Blue Alchemy:

Perfect Blue Alchemy* has some different essential oil based body oils and their Hibernate scent is my favorite! It’s made with lavender, rose, frankincense, sandalwood essential oil, and some nourishing sweet almond oil. If you don’t like essential oils I wouldn’t recommend it, but if you do, this is the body oil for you! I love using this one when I shower at night and feel like the essential oils nourish my skin but also the smell of lavender is just so relaxing to me. They have other essential oil-based body oils too that look amazing so definitely check those out too!

Pro Tip: Apply body oil when your skin is still a little damp. This helps lock in extra moisture and helps the body oil spread easier. A little bit goes a long way!
